The High Sun in France The High Sun in France

The 7th Les Arcs European Film Festival, running from December 12th to 19th in the French Alps, will feature numerous Croatian films and co-productions in competition and industry programmes. Les Arcs is also one of the most important festivals for networking and film promotion, where over 120 films will be screened, and more than 500 filmmakers and film professionals will be in attendance.
The Hauteur programme, which features a selection of some of the best European films, will screen Dalibor Matanic’s The High Sun.

The High Sun nominated for the American International Press Academy Satellite Awards! The High Sun nominated for the American International Press Academy Satellite Awards!

The International Press Academy (USA) has disclosed today the list of Satellite Awards nominees, which will be presented a week before the Oscars for best achievement in motion pictures and television. The High Sun by Dalibor Matanic has been nominated in the Motion Picture, International Film category, along with 9 other motion pictures from around the world.

IPA is an association of active journalists and media workers, registered with the Motion Picture Association of America, who nominate best candidates. Since 1996, IPA has been awarding the Satellite Awards for motion picture and television achievement in thirty-one categories, one being for best international motion picture. Along with The High Sun, this list also includes motion pictures such as the Hungarian Son of Saul, which has received numerous awards, and the Brazilian The Second Mother, pictures which are often mentioned in the American media as promising candidates for the Academy Award.

The High Sun has received this new and important recognition after nineteen awards, successful Croatian distribution and forty international festivals world-wide.

The feature film The High Sun, written and directed by Dalibor MataniŠ, has won yet another festival award, this time at the 37th Cairo International Film Festival. Egypt’s capital city hosted the event from November 11th to 20th.
The Cairo International Film Festival was launched in 1976 and is one of the first international film festivals held in the Arab region. This year the programme featured 120 films, while the international competition screened a total of 16 films.

After the great results at the domestic box office, film The High Sun by Dalibor Matanic is achieving new successes on the international film scene and winning the festival audiences around the world. The newest recognition is coming from France - the Grand Prix at the International Festival of War on Screen in Châlons-en-Champagne.
In the competition of nine feature titles, among them was the award-winning Hungarian film Son of Saul by László Nemes, an international jury chaired by renowned English-French director Roland Joffe, proclaimed The High Sun the best. It is the main prize of the first international festival dedicated to the theme of war and conflict.
This Grand Prix is the twelfth award in a series of recent recognitions that The High Sun won.

The award-winning feature film The High Sun by Dalibor Matanic premiered yesterday in Rijeka and so began its series of premieres which will be, in addition to Rijeka, held in Portoroz, Zadar, Knin, Split, Osijek and Zagreb.

After the screening the audience greeted the film crew: actors Tihana Lazovic, Goran Markovic, Slavko Sobin, Lukrecija Tudor and Tara Rosandic, producer Ankica Juric Tilic, editor Tomislav Pavlic and Ivor Siber from distribution company 2i Film responsible for distributing the film.

The series of premieres and the pre-premiere of the film at the cinema hall Gold Class, Cinestar Arena IMAX, is planned from 16 to 23 and from September 24 the film will be in all Croatian theaters.

New award was presented shortly before the second Days of Mirko Kovac in Rovinj. The prize is awarded in four categories for the best work published or recorded in the previous year. Five-membered jury announced the winners among the artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia. The award for best screenplay of the completed film will be given out to Vuk Rsumovic for the film No One's Child in Kinorama's minority co-production. The award ceremony will be held at the Days of Mirko Kovac in Rovinj on October 3rd.

A total of 300 films from 32 countries have been shown in the program, while the "Best Actor" award has been given in the competition of 16 feature films of the festival's main competition program. International Festival of Film Directing "LIFFE" started this evening in Leskovac, Serbia. The festival is held for the eighth time and runs until September 12. The director of the film "No One's Child" Vuk Rsumovic won the Grand Prix "Zika Pavlovic," while the second prize for best director went to Vinko Möderndorfer for the film "Inferno".

The "Zlatni lesnik" for best actor was equally given out to actors boys Philip Subasic, who plays in "Enclave" and Denis Murtic for "No One's Child".

The winners were decided by the expert jury: Branko Schmidt, director from Croatia, Branko Baletic, director from Montenegro and Serbian actor Branislav Lecic.

Feature film by Dalibor Matanic, The High Sun, has been included in the selection for the EFA award - the "European Oscar", which awards every year the best accomplishments of the European cinematography. The High Sun is one of 52 films in the running to win awards in 21 categories, including the ones for best European film, director, screenwriter, actress, actor, cinematographer, editor, production designer, costume designer, composer, sound designer. Every year, the Croatian Society of Film Workers chooses one feature film to present Croatia in the competition for the Academy Awards given by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, i.e. Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category. This year, seven films produced in Croatia responded, while 15 CSFW members from all professional branches of the Society formed the film selection committee. Winner of the Grand Golden Arena for Best Festival Film at the 62nd Pula Film Festival is The High Sun, directed by Dalibor Matanic. The film is produced by Kinorama and Ankica Juric Tilic. The High Sun also won the Golden Arena for Best Director, Best Actress (Tihana Lazovic), Best Supporting Actress (Nives Ivankovic), Best Supporting Actor (Dado Cosic) and Best Costume Design (Ana Savic Gecan). Along with six Arenas, The High Sun also won the Octavian, awarded by the Croatian Society of Film Critics.
In the Minority Co-Production Category Vuk Rsumovic’s film No One’s Child was awarded the Golden Arena for Best Film and Best Director, while the film’s main actor, Denis Muric, won Best Acting Performance for his role of Puce.
Golden Arena for Make-up is awarded to Mojca Gorogranc Petrushevska for the film Love or Death directed by Daniel Kusan and the audience has awarded the Golden Gate of Pula to the film We Will Be The World Champions directed by Darko Bajic.

In Razanac near Zadar the shooting of the film Upstream / En amont du fleuve commenced. The film is directed by the Belgian director Marion Hänsel, produced by Belgian production company Man's Films Productions and with the support of Kinorama that services the production. The film will be fully shot in Croatia, mostly in Zadar county. The main roles are played by Sergi Lopez and Olivier Gourmet, while Croatian actors Igor Kovac and Niksa Butijer play supporting roles.

The High Sun is the first Croatian feature film from the Croatian independence which was invited to participate in the Official Selection at Cannes.

Cannes Film Festival today is the most prestigious and most respected film festival in the world and this year's 68th edition will be held in France from May 13 to May 24. "Un Certain Regard" section of the official competition program which focuses on discovering new director's poetics. This year's program's jury will be presided by the actress and director Isabella Rossellini.

The first day of shooting Kinorama's drama TV mini series for Croatian Radiotelevision Road Patrol took place in Vrgorac, Dalmatia. The screenplay was based on the eponymous literary template by Jurica Pavicic who is also one of the screenwrites of the project. Of 26 March within a CineFest event in CineStar cinemas in Zagreb, Rijeka and Osijek a film Inferno began its theatrical life. Inferno directed by Vinko Möderndorfer is a Kinorama's minority co-production. Sports drama We Will Be World Champions by director Darko Bajic created in Serbo-Croatian-Slovenian co-production yesterday had its Croatian premiere in the cinema auditorium IMAX CineStar Arena Zagreb. We Will Be the World Champions is a story about four pioneers who fathered the Yugoslav school of basketball, and whose merit is the development of this sport in Europe and winning the first gold medal for Yugoslavia in world championships. The film's director is Darko Bajic, Nebojsa Romcevic wrote the screenplay in collaboration with Gordan Mihic and Ognjen Svilicic. In supporting roles are Croatian actors Leon Lucev, Iva Babic, Goran Bogdan, Robert Kurbasa, Kresimir Petar Cosic and others.
Delegate producer is Intermedia Network (Serbia) and co-producers are Kinorama and Perfo (Slovenia). The film is distributed by Blitz film and video, and from Thursday the film will be shown at 16 locations, in all three Cineplexx and eight Cinestar cinema and in five small independent cinemas.

Board of Directors of the European co-production fund Eurimages at its 138th session, which took place 9-12 March in Lisbon, supported a total of 20 feature-length European film co-productions. These are 18 fiction films and two feature documentary films, including the Croatian-Danish co-production Quit Staring at My Plate, written and directed by Hana Jusic (delegate producer: Kinorama; Danish co-producer: Beofilm). This is Kinorama’s third consecutive time to ensure Eurimages funds for its projects.

New film in minority co-production of Kinorama, from the director Darko Bajic, We Will Be World Champions premiered at the Belgrade Sava Center and gathered cultural, sports and social elite. The film is a true sports story about the founders of the famous "Yugoslavian basketball school" and the first gold medal at the championship in Ljubljana, 1970.
After an extremely popular regional film and TV saga Montevideo, production company Intermedia Network has produced this successful project as the Serbian-Croatian-Slovenian co-production.

On Friday in the crowded hall of the Zagreb cinema Europe gala premiere of the feature film The Reaper directed by Zvonimir Juric was held. Zagreb premiere screening of the film announced the cinema distribution which starts from February 19.

The Reaper is produced by Kinorama and Slovenian Forum Ljubljana and national distribution will take place under the auspices of 2i film. Development and production was supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and European funds Media and Eurimages. Of February 19, the film will be screened in selected CineStar cinemas and after that in a network of independent cinema exhibitors.

The Gothenburg International Film Festival was launched in 1979 and became the greatest film festival in Scandinavia. With more than 200,000 visitors annually, it is one of the largest world festivals. This 11-day event this year screens around 500 films from 80 countries.
