Variola - Dark Spring

Yugoslavia, 1972. A sudden outbreak of smallpox, a contagious disease that claimed 300 million lives in the 20th century, takes the country by surprise. Several prominent Yugoslav health workers find themselves on the front lines of the fight against a deadly invisible enemy threatening Europe. The federal government is divided by internal disputes between the republics - it considers how to deal with the danger while keeping it secret. In the extreme circumstances of this true event, we follow stories inspired by real people with their private dramas who unexpectedly become heroes, risking their lives. These are the forgotten heroes of the "Dark Spring" of 1972.
